Is Chisel safe?

What the app does with your photos · Android · adults 18+

Short answer: yes, with one thing to know. Chisel's sliders and photo tools run on your phone and don't upload your photos. The one exception is the optional AI Transform. When you tap it, Chisel asks first, then sends that one photo over an encrypted connection to a third-party cloud AI provider to generate the result. You don't need an account, the app is for adults (18+), and it doesn't edit faces.

Permissions

On Android, the only permission Chisel asks you to grant is access to your photos, so it can show your gallery. On Android 12 and lower this is the storage permission. If you take a new photo, Chisel opens your phone's camera app; it doesn't ask for camera permission itself. It doesn't ask for your location or your contacts.

FAQ

Does Chisel upload my photos?

Not for the sliders and photo tools: they run on your phone. Only the optional AI Transform sends a photo off your phone. When you tap it, Chisel asks first, then sends that one photo over an encrypted connection to a third-party cloud AI provider to generate the result.

Do I need an account to use Chisel?

No. There is no sign-up or login. AI Transform counts its free uses with a random ID created on your phone the first time you use it. That ID is not an advertising ID.

Does Chisel show ads?

Yes, the free version shows Google AdMob ads. In regions that need it, Chisel shows Google's consent form before any ads load. Chisel Pro removes the ads.

Is Chisel for teenagers?

No. Chisel is for adults (18+). On first launch the app asks you to confirm that you are 18 or older.

Can Chisel change my face?

No. Chisel has no face edits. AI Transform tells the AI model to keep your face, head, hair and pose the same.
